Dear members of Love Lutheran,

Dr. Hahn had asked me to help organize gathering items to help those in need, both food items, and non-food items, like the socks that we send to help residents of Jo Ellen Smith. He suggested we use donations put into the food basket in the narthex, to supply the personal bags we can give out. Each of us can carry a few bags off, and when we see someone asking for help, we’ll be able to offer them something useful.

For this to work, we’d have to have specific items in the food basket, items suitable for those who may not have access to amenities like a kitchen.

Below is a list of suitable food items, and non-food items, but it’s not inclusive. Please feel free to bring other items too, and suggest other items we should include. So far we are requesting:

Food Items:

Peanut butter. Dollar Tree has 12 oz. jars of peanut butter for $1.25; Dollar Tree also has Loma Linda vegetarian rice-based entrees for $1.25.

Packaged steak strips or beef jerky

Canned smoked oysters or sardines

Sunkist seasoned tuna foil pouches

packages of nuts, perfect kibble for humans

granola bars and nutrition bars

Cheese and crackers individual snacks

Peanut butter and crackers individual snacks

Crackers, cookies, chips, Little Debbie items

Non-food items:

Bottle of water

Kleenex or another brand of facial tissue, small pack

Small packs of sanitary hand wipes

Little notebook, and pen. We need to locate our Love Lutheran imprinted pens, they work really well.

Socks, probably large is the best size

Comb, nail care kit, deodorant

Toothbrush and toothpaste.
We hope to find a local dentist
to donate these, with their advertising imprint.

handkerchief or bandana

Small coin purse or zip lock bag with quarters inside, useful at the laundromat

A small book of devotions with our imprint, or even a printed card inviting them to our worship service.

Monetary donations could be accepted too. Five dollars would buy 4 jars of 12 oz, peanut butter at Dollar Tree. (Dixie Adkins offers to pay the tax)

Thanks for your help,

Dixie Adkins
